Frequently asked questions

The General Information Booklet answers a range questions freqently asked by the Bondi Public school parent and carer community. Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions from parents at our school. If you have a question not seen here please contact the school or the classroom teacher of your child.

What time can I bring my child to school?

The playground is supervised from 8:30am. Unattended children are not permitted on school grounds before this time unless they are attending Before and After School Care (BASC). Afternoon pick-up is 3:00pm. If your child has not been collected by 3:15pm they will need to be signed into BASC.

What is the daily schedule?

8:55 am bell: Meet at class lines

9:00 am bell: Walk to class

11:15 am to 11:45 am: Recess

1:15 pm to 2:00 pm: Lunch

3:00 pm: School ends

What if I need to drop my child off before 8:30 am or cannot pick my child up at 3:00 pm?

Before and after school care is located on the school premises. Before school care is available from 7:30am and after school care is available until 6:00pm. Visit the Bondi BASC website for more information.

What do I need to do if my child is going to be absent from school?

If your child is absent please advise the school in writing with a detailed explanation. If your child is going to be absent for more than 3 days you need to complete an application for extended leave at least a week before your departure. One form per child is required and all 3 pages need to be completed in full.

Do I need to do anything if my child is late for school or needs to be collected early?

If your child arrives late or needs to be collected from school early please visit the office to sign them in/out. This is a legal requirement to protect your child.

When and what time are assemblies?

Assemblies are on every Friday in the new hall and alternate weekly between K-2 and 3-6.

K-2 assemblies are on odd weeks and 3-6 are on even weeks. Assembly runs from 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm. Parents are always welcome and are given seating at the back of the hall.

How do I order from the canteen?

Our healthy canteen has only the best made foods and sells no fizzy drinks or flavoured milks. The meat is organic, bread is wholemeal and all food is fresh daily. It is wholly run by parents at the school and offers a variety of exciting healthy options.
The canteen runs on an online order system. To place an order you must first create an account on the flexischools website. Orders must be placed before 8:45am. No late orders will be accepted.

What if my child does not have any recess or lunch?

Your child will be given a note from their teacher to obtain a piece of fruit at recess and a sandwich at lunch time from the staffroom.

What if I cannot pay for school fees, excursions or uniforms?

We have a student assistance scheme in place. At no time should financial concerns prevent any of our students from participating in school programs.  School fees, uniforms, excursion and performance costs can attract financial assistance, as some funding is available to assist in cases of genuine financial need. Please contact the Principal to make arrangements for confidential financial support.

How do I arrange for a meeting with my child’s class teacher?

Teachers are available for meetings with parents at mutually convenient times. Please arrange meetings beforehand via email or ClassDojo.

Does the school provide Special Religious Education (SRE) lessons?

Members of various religious organisations conduct SRE lessons once a week. Parents nominate the religious group they wish their child to attend. Those children not attending SRE have the option to participate in Ethics or Non-Scripture. Once your choice has been made, it cannot be changed until the following year.

If I change my contact details do I need to inform the school?

It is essential that you inform the office and the class teacher of any change of contact details relating to your child. This included mobile numbers, emergency contacts and home addresses. This is particularly important in case of sickness or accident.

Does my child have to wear a hat?

At Bondi Public school we have a strict policy of no hat no play. Broad-brimmed hats are available from the uniform shop.

What do I do if my child has to take medication while at school?

  • Prescribed medications only may be taken at school
  • A request for administering medications form must be completed by the parent
  • Medicine must be administered by staff member
  • Students requiring medication at school should go to the office
  • Medications kept at school will be stored in the office area
  • Students should carry asthma treatment with them on all school activities
  • Students are not permitted to keep medications on their person, in their bags or in classrooms (with the exception of asthma puffers). Teachers will not ‘mind’ medications.

What if my child loses something valuable at school?

All valuables should remain at home. Student mobile phones must be signed in to the office on arrival. Please do not allow your child to bring toys, games or cards to school. We have a strict rule that no toys are to be brought to school which protects from theft, loss and playground squabbles.

Does my child have to go on school excursions or attend performances?

Excursions are planned to enrich the learning experience and all children participate. For all excursions where students leave the school, permission notes are required. All notes and money for excursions and performances must be handed into the class teacher at least three days before the excursion date as this assists in organisation. Money and notes are not to be handed in at the office.
